'Enough' by First Reel Films

(Belfast, UK) First Edit

First cut: Producers notes for the filmmakers

  • Interesting take on the script – bold and it works better than we would have thought
  • Try cutting down the action and make sure your split screens work in harmony – either mirroring each other or very different – we are sure you have tried every option, buyt jus in case
  • Try reducing the length – you could even drop a line or two where the performance is not as strong
  • For me it feels like it needs a thin black bar in the middle, to clarify the split screen concept
  • Work on your sound too, the dialogue tracks need cleaning up a little

Not sure that I like it. I think that the split screen doesn't work at the moment. To many of the shots don't feel right side by side. I like the idea of doing the 500days thing but the two frames aren't telling a complete story at the moment, they just feel like two different shots rammed together. Feel if you want to stick with the split screen you may need to look at a lot of the shot selections again. Believe you really need to think why you are using the split screen and try to build the narrative around that.

Very interesting idea but I agree with Stephen that you should expand the action. Too many lingering shots where you could've told a better story by using the other half for close ups of their hands, etc. If you give me double the screens to look at I expect double the action, or at least something to justify it.
I also don't think his acting was particularly strong. Reduce excess head space.
Really liked how she is pulled into the other frame at the end. Very clever and strong image.

Second half stronger than first half - struggle with the split screen. Strong ending though ..

    Nice effort
