First cut: Producers notes for the filmmakers

  • Start on ‘I hate you’ – will have more power and the smoking thing is awkward
  • Needs a consistent atmos as it disappears during the hug and feels weird
  • Foley would help build the human world too
  • Get out faster, you can drop one of the last two shots for sure

Think you need to add a bit more of a sound desgin. Just feels a bit quiet and still at times. The performances are good and you build up the emotion pretty well but just feels like its lacking something at the moment. Am curious what other feedback you get for it. Still, I did enjoy it.

Acting is very good. So is the camera work and editing so the critique is more about my thoughts as I watched as I did get a teensie weensie bit bored towards the end of the hook.

I didn't particularly like the handheld would have been better on a tripod but the camera work was quite good. When we find out she's the future Mrs Thomas it should end there. No need to go into a master. A lot of long actors expressions that add to the intimacy maybe could trim some parts a little although it does work as it is. I think if you keep them this length then look to add some music. Would be nice if a sad song coming from the party. Then stops and a door creak when the husband to be walks out. Could also make it look a little like the office if there was background chatter going on and a little more ring fumbling. The extra shots you could then speed up the edit as they talk over the cutaways. Fine though as it is.

This is my favourite of the 3 films you have submitted. The emotion is portrayed really well, it just needs some party atmosphere coming from inside the house, we don't hear any chatter and music so it feels a bit too quiet to work as it is.
