'A Ghetto Punk Romance' by Giant B

(Florida, USA) Second Edit

No budget but thanks to my generous crew of 5 who love the art of film-making. Shot on Canon 5d Mark II, Canon 1Dx and gopro (skateboard shots). Mostly available light was used. Special thanks to David Johnson with Johnson's Firearms for allowing me to use his gun store without any problems and thanks to Sage's Oyster Bar & Restaurant who was very supportive of our project and allowed us to use their restaurant.

'A Ghetto Punk Romance' by Giant B

(Florida, USA) First Edit

First cut: Producers notes for the filmmakers

  • Dialogue in first half is a challenge due to the way it was shot – can you get any more out of it with a remix?
  • Consider ending at 1:44, leaving us hanging on what happened next?
  • Feels over choppy in places too, especially when the singles of each character are quite good. Do we really need a shot of her ass?

Really enjoyed it. Was fun, sexy, good colours and style. Liked the camera work. Not sure it overly needs the stakeboard shots so would consider cutting them to trim the runtime a little but other than that thought it was great. Good job. Was just a cool film.

Really liked this version. Very bad ass. As said the early dialogue needs work, possibly ADR. All that skateboard business is cool but doesn't propel the story. I loved the rapid fire delivery and personally didn't mind the butt shot. Not sure why they'd pick an ammo store to hit but I guess it works. With some reworking this could be killer.
Does not having a kiss disqualify it? If so, consider shooting her kissing her gun after his kiss line. Done.

Loved this one. Skateboard shots added to atmosphere of motion / action addiction that was implied by the story.. and the shot of her ass does so too (nice ass!)by juxtaposing LUST with LOVE = pretty perfect.. and the shots & slo-mo at the end

I think you have a great film but it needs work on the sound especially the high volume of traffic noise and wind. I also couldnt help feeling why would burglars hit a gun shop what a poor choice for a robbery as there are likely to be customers people out back etc with access to guns. The idea they just went in shooting makes it seem like a hit and not a robbery. If it's a hit they didnt come across as killers and there was nothing about them that made me feel they could be burglars. Maybe if I hadnt seen another version of this story I would have appreciated it more. The skateboard shot was a nice way of establishing the location. Maybe it would have been nice if our heros had got off skateboards as well. Could have added to the idea of what are they up to? Film making and acting though was quite edgy and fun.

Needs some sound work and grading (the different cameras you used could be more homogenized in post) but I really loved the actors and the setting. I liked the end shots and cutting when they run into the gun store, and the music cue at the end was well suited to the tone. Good job!! I agree about the ass shot. It seemed a little gratuitous.
